In pursuance of the National Scheme to inculcate feeling of service towards nation and understanding of national priorities amongst youth a vision of National Service Scheme came in to existence. In accord with it NSS units in institutions like us functioning devotedly and dedicatedly . Presently we are running one unit of NSS in which students participate enthusiastically in various activities, i.e. awakening of rural and local people regarding environmental issues, conducting surveys on various important parameters, issues concerning health etc. NSS volunteers participate in day and day and night camps and can appear for NSS A, B or C certificate examination.

Objectives
NSS was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of the nation. Therefore, 24th September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programmes and activities.

The broad objectives of NSS are to:

(i) understand the community in which they work

(ii) understand themselves in relation to their community;

(iii) identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process;

(iv) develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;

(v) utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems;

(vi) develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities;

(vii) gain skills in mobilizing community participation;

(viii) acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude;

(ix) develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and

(x) practice national integration and social harmony.

NSS Song

During Silver Jubilee Year the NSS theme song has been composed. All NSS volunteers are expected to learn the theme song and sing the song during NSS programmes and celebrations.
